The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had forrecast an above-normal season.
Earliest Category 4 Atlantic hurricane
According to CNN, Beryl on Sunday became the earliest Category 4 Atlantic hurricane on record and the only Category 4 in June.
As of Monday night, a hurricane warning was in effect for Jamaica, with a tropical storm warning in effect for portions of the southern coast of the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami advised interests in the Cayman Islands, Belize, the Yucatán Peninsula, the remainder of the northwestern Caribbean, and the southwestern Gulf of Mexico to monitor Beryl's progress.
Norwegian Cruise Line
Tuesday update: Norwegian Cruise Line switched two ships from western to eastern Caribbean routes.
Port Canaveral-based Norwegian Jade is calling San Juan, Tortola and Puerto Plata instead of Falmouth (Jamaica), Grand Cayman and Cozumel.
And Miami-based Norwegian Breakaway is going to Puerto Plata, St. Thomas and Tortola, with an added call at Great Stirrup Cay, in lieu of Roatán, Harvest Cay (Belize), Costa Maya and Cozumel.
Carnival Cruise Line
Carnival Cruise Line canceled Miami-based Carnival Horizon's scheduled call at Grand Cayman on Wednesday, and Carnival Liberty, which sailed Sunday from New Orleans, will visit Cozumel on Tuesday instead of Friday, which will now be a day at sea.
Celebrity Cruises
At Celebrity Cruises, Celebrity Beyond's current cruise from Port Everglades will visit Aruba instead of Bonaire on Tuesday and instead call at Bonaire on Thursday.
Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean International's Icon of the Seas will now visit Cozumel on Tuesday and Costa Maya on Wednesday instead of St. Maarten and St. Thomas.
Tampa-based Grandeur of the Seas flipped the order of port calls and will now call Cozumel on Wednesday and Progreso on Thursday.
Port Canaveral-based Wonder of the Seas will skip Roatán and substitute Nassau for Costa Maya.
And Harmony of the Seas’ current cruise from Galveston will visit Cozumel on Tuesday and Costa Maya on Wednesday, instead of Roatán.
